The debate regarding ticket prices/hikes in Telugu states has been a never-ending topic in the Telugu film industry. While some individuals and producers in the industry always wanted regular pricing in the theaters, some producers demand the ticket hikes as they think that is the only way to recover their huge budgets. Whenever a big film releases, the debate around this issue gets highlighted for a few days and left like that. Recently, NTR’s big-budget film Devara was released with exorbitant ticket hikes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
In his recen interview, Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, the renowned producer who distributed Devara in Telugu, commented that spending Rs 1500 for a film would not be a problem for a family, as the high that the movie viewing experience provides in 3 hours cannot be provided by any other entertainment form. Meanwhile, Suresh Babu, the senior producer of the industry, criticized the ticket hikes, and he suggested that it will be better to put convenient prices for audiences as hiked prices are making watching a movie a very pricey experience for them.
On social media, there was a discussion among netizens about this issue for a few days, with many supporting Suresh Babu and criticizing Naga Vamsi. The hiked ticket prices might work for the big films as the star heroes will have a huge fan base that does not think about ticket prices while watching their favorite hero’s movies, but the small films will definitely get affected by big ticket prices. Many social media users and even some insiders from the Telugu film industry feel that the producers and exhibitors should come to a common ground and fix this problem by setting convenient ticket prices for audiences.
