The Malayalam film industry is now enjoying its yesteryear classics by re-releasing those films worldwide. After the highly successful theatrical run of Devadoothan 4K and the upcoming Manichithrathazhu 4K, another old classic film will hit the big screens now. According to the inside reports, Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan’s Thenmavin Kombath, which was originally released in 1994 and became a blockbuster at the box office, will have a grand theatrical release in remastered 4K format.
Reportedly, the producers of Thenmavin Kombath will soon start the remastering works of the Priyadarshan directorial. It is also being suggested that the senior filmmaker and his team will make the film ready to hit the theaters in 6 months now, in 4K format. The tentative release date for the Thenmavin Kombath 4K version is January 25, 2025, ahead of the Republic Day weekend. Saptha Records, who have done the remastering work of Devadoothan 4K, might also join the iconic Mohanlal-Shobana starrer. Mukesh Mehta, the senior film producer, has reportedly acquired the re-release distribution rights of Themavin Kombath for his home production banner, E4 Entertainment. However, the producers are yet to make any official announcement on this.
Thenmavin Kombath was directed by Priyadarshan, and it focuses primarily on three lead roles: Manikyan, Sree Krishnan Thampuran, and Yashodhamma, the widowed elder sister of Manikyan. Mohanlal was seen as Manikyan in the film, which stars Nedumudi Venu as Sree Krishnan and Shobana as Karthumpi. Sreenivasan, Sukumari, KPAC Lalitha, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Sankaradi, Kuthiravattom Pappu, Geetha Vijayan, Nandhu, Sonia, Sharat Saxena, and others examined the supporting roles in Thenmavin Kombath. The Berny-Ignatius duo composed the songs, while SP Venkatesh handled the background score. KV Anand is the director of photography of the film, produced by N Gopalakrishnan under the banner Prasidhi Creations.
