Theaters: Tamil Nadu Theater owners’ request to the Government

After the Corona pandemic, the Indian film industry faced a few years of tough times to get back to normalcy. The footfalls, ticket prices, theatrical run, and OTT platforms rose; everything changed the dynamics in the market. In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Theater Association has requested the Tamil Nadu Government to consider a new set of their listed requests/wants.

The Tamil Nadu theater owners asked the government to allow them to put flexible ticket prices up to Rs 250. Their plan is to put recliner seats for that price, which will help them in getting more collections. As of now, Tamil Nadu is the only state in South India in which the theaters do not have recliner seats.

Another request by the TN Theater owners is the permission to have multiple shows for a film starting at 4 AM. Because all the other states are arranging early morning shows for big movies, the theater owners feel at least on the first day they should be allowed to put a maximum number of shows starting at the same time as the other states. Currently, the earliest morning show time in Tamil Nadu is 9 AM.

The last and final request by the Tamil Nadu Theater Owners is that the OTT window for the star hero film should be 8 weeks (56 days) and 6 weeks (42 days) for other films. Now, we have to wait and see whether the Tamil Nadu government will agree to the demands of the Theater owners.
