The GOAT, Vijay’s latest action drama, made its digital debut on October 3, 2024. The film was released in theaters on September 5, 2024, and though it received mixed reviews on the first day, the film was able to collect nearly 460 crore gross at the worldwide box office and emerged as a hit at the box office. Vijay’s stardom, along with his performance in dual roles and action sequences, helped the film have a good run at the theaters. However, the fans of Vijay are not happy with the director Venkat Prabhu and OTT platform Netflix after its OTT release.
As said above, The GOAT (The Greatest of All-Time) landed on Netflix on October 3, and before this, there was a strong rumor that the digital version of the film would have extended runtime. The theatrical version of the film had a runtime of three hours and three minutes. The inside reports suggested that it will premiere with an extended runtime. However, much to the disappointment of fans, the Netflix version did not have any additional length, and it had the exact same runtime as the theatrical version of The Goat. So, the fans showed their frustration on the film’s makers, and director Venkat Prabhu responded to the fans and stated that the team will have to work on the VFX part again to add those 20 minutes, and he will talk to the producers and see if he can release those scenes as deleted scenes or release a director’s cut.
Made as an action drama, The GOAT marks the first ever collaboration of Vijay and Venkat Prabhu. Yuvan Shankar Raja scored the film’s music, and it tells the story of Gandhi, an ex-agent of SATS who suffers a personal loss during an operation. After a few years, Gandhi experiences the shock of his life as Jeevan, his son whom he assumed to be dead, comes back again. The Greatest of All-Time is now available for online streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.
