The Dull Phase Continues for Telugu States’ Theaters

The Tollywood box office is currently experiencing a very lean phase, as there are no significant releases hitting the big screens. Not only mainstream films but even noteworthy films are absent at this point. The situation is quite dire this weekend, with no mention-worthy options available. Usually, the Summer period is filled with big releases of Star Heroes, or at least some exciting films from tier 2 heroes would benefit from this season. But the 2024 Summer has become the worst-ever season for the Telugu Film Industry.

Vishal’s Rathnam was released this weekend, but unfortunately, it failed to make an impact, and many Telugu audiences were not even aware of its arrival in theaters. The box office numbers are meager. Due to the lack of notable choices, the people of Hyderabad are left with options like Malayalam films like Manjunmel Boys and Aavesham. With limited theatrical releases, the Telugu audience may have to settle for the latest OTT releases like Family Star and Tilly Square this weekend. Typically, there is a frenzy for new theatrical films during the Summer season, but this time, we are witnessing the opposite scenario.

Some small films are being released in the upcoming week, with Allari Naresh’s Aa Okkati Adakku being the main headliner. Suhas’s Prasanna Vadanam, Satyadev’s Krishnamma, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s Sabari, and another small film named Jitender Reddy will be released in theaters on May 3rd. The theater owners in the Telugu States hope that at least one or two of these films will be successful and give them some relief.
