The Buckingham Murders: Kareena Kapoor talks about the film’s box office failure

Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to enthrall her fans this Diwali with Singham again. Directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role, the film will be released in theaters worldwide on November 1, 2024. During the promotions of the film, the actress spoke about the box office failure of her recent theatrical release, The Buckingham Murders.

Directed by Hansal Mehta, The Buckingham Murders was released in theaters worldwide on September 13, 2024. Though the critics praised the film, the film ended up as a failure at the box office. Speaking about the film’s result, Kareena said that it was an indie kind of movie. She stated that each film has a different audience that too in today’s time, as the ones who like grand masala films like Singham Again are not the audiences for The Buckingham Murders. Also, the actress thinks that the dialogue being in English for almost all the parts has worked against the film. She took an example of Jaane Jaan, her film, which was directly released on OTT (Netflix) and received a good response, and at the same time, Crew, which was released in theaters, received the required good response. Kareena claimed that striking a balance between both audiences and content is the key, and she has learned to do it. Meanwhile, The Buckingham Murders’ director, Hansal Mehta, hinted at a prequel to Jasmeet, the character played by Kareena, in a recent interview.

Directed by Hansal Mehta, The Buckingham Murders tells the story of a grieving mother and detective who take up a case of an Indian boy gone missing. The case feels much more personal to the detective as she sees remembrances of her son while investigating the boy’s disappearance. The film also features Ranveer Brar, Rukku Nahar, Ash Tando, Keith Allen, and Prabhleen Sandhu appearing in crucial roles.
