Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest crime thriller, The Buckingham Murders, completed its first week at the domestic box office. The film was released on Friday (September 13) and opened to favorable reviews from a section of critics. However, the film failed to capitalize on the talk and produce good numbers at the box office. Some industry and trade persons attributed the weak performance of the film to its lack of commercial elements.
The trailer for the film was intriguing and made everyone wait for the theatrical release. But the film opened with a low number of 1.5 crore net on day 1, which was followed by a slight growth on weekends with Saturday and Sunday getting 2 and 2.2 crore. After the weekend, the film’s number continued to drop and fell below 1 crore. On its 7th day, the crime thriller could only gather 23 lakhs net. Overall, The Buckingham Murders collected 8.3 crore net at the domestic box office.
Directed by Hansal Mehta, The Buckingham Murders tells the story of a grieving mother and detective who take up a case of an Indian boy gone missing. The case feels much more personal to the detective as she sees remembrances of her son while investigating the boy’s disappearance. The film also features Ranveer Brar, Rukku Nahar, Ash Tando, Keith Allen, and Prabhleen Sandhu appearing in crucial roles.
