Thangalaan, the period action-drama film, brings actor Chiyaan Vikram and director Pa Ranjith together for the first time. The movie was delayed multiple times after completing shoot because of various technical reasons, but it is finally set to hit theaters across the globe on August 15, 2024, as an Independence Day special release. Chiyaan Vikram will be seen in a rugged getup in the film. Since August 10th evening an image which reveals the entire story of Thangalaan is going viral on social media.
According to a screenshot taken from an online booking platform, “Thangalaan lives with his people, cultivating their land in Veppur village, North-Arcot district. The village’s Zamindar conspires to take Thangalaan’s land and turn his family into bonded laborers. A British man named Clement arrives, seeking experienced miners from Veppur to work in the Kolar Gold Fields.” reveals the viral post. According to this post, Thangalaan agrees to go with Kolaar to save his family and claim his land. Naga Cheif Aarathi, played by Malavika Mohanan is a mystical figure who safeguards the Kolar region. Thangalaan and his clan struggle to work at Kolar area as they face starvation and deadly accidents, which is planned by the Nagas, lead by Aarathi. Even though Thangaalan attempts to bring more laborers from his village Veppur, they accuse him of putting their lives in danger. Meanwhile, Thangalaan also discovers a hidden link about his heritage, and he joins forces with Aarathi and confronts Clement. Chiyaan Vikram plays Thangalaan in the film, while Parvathy Thiruvothu appears as his wife Gangamma. Malavika Mohanan plays Naga leader Aarathi.
Thangalaan features Daniel Caltagirone as the lead antagonist Clement. Pasupathy, Hari Krishnan Anbudurai, Sampath Ram, Vettai Muthukumar, Krish Haasan, and others appear in the other crucial roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the songs and background score. Kishor Kumar is the director of photography. Selva RK handles the editing. Thangalaan is jointly produced by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions and Studio Green.
