Thangalaan to Edge Out Double iSmart?

Ram Pothineni’s much-anticipated film Double iSmart, directed by the renowned Puri Jagannath, is gearing up for an Independence Day release on August 15th. With the trailer recently unveiled, giving fans a taste of what to expect, the makers seem determined to meet the release date. However, despite the upbeat promotions, the film’s distribution in key regions like Nizam is hitting significant roadblocks, creating uncertainty over its theatrical rollout.

The film’s Nizam rights are yet to be sold, and it appears that distributors are hesitant to take the plunge, particularly after the setbacks faced with Puri Jagannath’s previous venture, Liger, which starred Vijay Deverakonda. The unresolved financial issues stemming from Liger are reportedly causing ripples, making distributors wary of investing in Double iSmart. The makers are grappling with this distribution dilemma, as the memories of Liger’s underperformance seem to have left a lasting impact on industry stakeholders.

Despite these hurdles, the makers of Double iSmart remain optimistic about the film’s release, continuing their promotional activities in full swing. However, if these distribution challenges persist, there is speculation that Chiyaan Vikram’s Tamil dubbed film Thangalaan could capitalize on the situation, potentially securing more screens in the Nizam region than a straight Telugu film. Adding to the competition, Ravi Teja’s Mr. Bachchan is also aiming for a major release on the same date, with its makers aggressively working to secure key screens. The upcoming Independence Day weekend might turn into a fierce box office battle if Double iSmart’s distribution issues aren’t resolved promptly.
