Chiyaan Vikram ‘s latest periodic action drama, Thangalaan was released in theaters worldwide on August 15th. The film was expected to be a good money spinner for Kollywood as the industry did not have many hits this year. Despite getting mixed response from audiences and critics, Thangalaan had a convenient weekend at the box office.
However, the film crashed on Monday, raising doubts about its further theatrical journey. For 4 days, Thangalaan gathered 27 Crores Gross in Tamil Nadu, 6 Crores in Telugu states, over 3 Crores Gross in Karnataka, 2.5 Crores Gross in Kerala and overseas Gross is 12 Crores. So for 5 days, Thangaalan collected 51 Crores Gross at the worldwide box office.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, Hari Krishnan Anbudurai, Sampath Ram and others in pivotal characters, apart from Vikram in the titular role. The movie is set in the backdrop of 1850 CE in Veppur village of North Arcot. GV Prakash Kumar composed the film’s music.
