Sony LIV, the popular streaming platform, has officially announced the release dates for Mammootty’s Turbo and Biju Menon’s Thalavan on its OTT service. Additionally, it has unveiled the digital trailer for its yet-to-be-released newest Malayalam film, Malayalee from India, starring Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the main roles.
The streaming platform has secured the digital rights for two Malayalam films, but the release dates have not been disclosed. However, the latest trailer for Malayalee from India will be accessible on SonyLIV from July 5. Mammootty’s Turbo is set for release in August, followed by Thalavan as an Onam release in September. The specific dates are still pending confirmation. Sony LIV has recently acquired the rights to numerous prominent Malayalam films. One of its latest additions is the movie Varshangalkku Shesham, starring Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan, which was released in June. Following this trend, subscribers can anticipate the release of a major Malayalam film every month for the remainder of the year. Additionally, Sony LIV will introduce two Malayalam web series later this year, including Jai Mahendran by Saiju Kurup and Sambhavavivaranam Nalarasangham (The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang) by Krishand.
Meanwhile, Turbo starring Mammootty, with Raj B Shetty and a voiceover by Vijay Sethupathi in the final scene, is an action-packed film that will be available for streaming in a variety of languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, ensuring a wider audience can enjoy the film. Thalavan, featuring Asif Ali, is also anticipated to be released in the four South Indian languages. Both films are expected to have sequels. The Indian comedy-drama Malayalee From India will also be available to stream on Sony LIV. Directed by Jana Gana Mana director Dijo Jose Anthony, the film follows the story of a lazy young man whose perspectives are challenged when he is compelled to leave the country and live with a Pakistani man during the pandemic. While the movie is designed to entertain, it also addresses various important issues, making it a delightful watch, despite the second half feeling a bit prolonged due to its limited setting.
