Veteran West Indies spinner Sunil Narine has put an end to speculation about a potential comeback to international cricket for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA. Despite teasing a return after his scintillating form for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, including his first T20 hundred, Narine has made it clear that the “door is now closed” on his international career.
In a statement released by KKR, the 34-year-old expressed gratitude for the support and calls for his return but stated that he has “made peace with that decision” to retire from international cricket in November 2023. Narine acknowledged the hard work of the current West Indies squad and wished them success in their quest to win another World Cup title on home soil.
Narine’s decision is a blow for the West Indies, as his experience and unique skill set could have been invaluable assets for the team in the marquee event. However, his words reflect a mature outlook, respecting the current crop of players who have earned their place through consistent performances over the past few months.
