Stree 2, the sequel to the 2018 horror -comedy film Stree was released on Independence Day, Thursday. Directed by Amar Kaushik and starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi in the lead roles, the film has shattered many records at the box office and made ₹65 crore net on its opening day in India.
Stree 2 had paid premieres on Wednesday night, during which the film earned ₹9.5 crore. On its opening day, the film made ₹55.5 crore, taking the total to an estimated ₹65 crore. Stree 2 is now the biggest opening day grosser of 2024, beating Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi) and Fighter.
Directed by Amar, Stree 2 has Rajkummar and Shraddha reprise their roles from the original. The film tells the story of how a demon named Sarkata attacks the women of Chanderi village and spreads fear among them. Stree, once a fearful figure for the Chanderi people, now offers help. The film also has multiple star cameos which the makers have kept under the wrap until the film got released. Varun Dhawan reprises his role as Bhediya, even appearing in a song alongside Shraddha.
