Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have remained tight-lipped about the next Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film. However, recent comments from Sony producers and filmmakers have shed some light on the studio’s upcoming plans for the web-slinger.
While fans eagerly await the next MCU Spider-Man appearance, Sony has been busy expanding its Spider-Verse with the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023. Additionally, the studio has announced three live-action films within its spin-off universe, starting with Madame Web.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse: Initially slated for 2024, the release of the animated film has been delayed indefinitely. Producer Chris Miller has promised a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, with expectations high after Across the Spider-Verse’s nomination for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards.
Spider-Man 4: Sony executive Amy Pascal’s comments at the Oscars Luncheon indicated that a live-action Miles Morales film would be made after “two more movies.” Miller clarified that this refers to Beyond the Spider-Verse and a potential live-action Tom Holland film, suggesting that Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland is in the works.
Live-Action Miles Morales Movie: Pascal’s comments also confirmed that a live-action Miles Morales movie is in Sony’s plans. While details are scarce, the character’s rising popularity through comics, the Spider-Verse films, and PlayStation video games make him a strong candidate for a standalone film.
While the release dates and specifics of these films are still uncertain, Sony’s commitment to expanding the Spider-Verse and exploring new avenues for the beloved superhero is evident. Fans can look forward to more exciting adventures from Spider-Man in the years to come.
