Bollywood Star actor Shah Rukh Khan’s team gave an official statement about the rumors about his involvement in freeing Indian Navy Officers in Qatar. Regarding reports concerning Shah Rukh Khan’s purported role in the release of Indian Navy veterans from Qatar, the office of Shah Rukh Khan said in a statement on Tuesday that “any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded.” The statement firmly refuted Khan’s involvement in the issue, highlighting that “the execution of this successful resolution solely rests with the Indian government officials.” “Additionally, all matters involving diplomacy and statecraft are best executed by our very able leaders. Khan, like many other Indians, is happy that the naval officers are home safe and wishes them all the best,” said the office of Shah Rukh Khan.
Earlier yesterday, Subramanian Swamy, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed his opinion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should accompany Shah Rukh Khan to the Gulf country. Swamy further asserted that the Bollywood actor played a significant role in securing the release of former Indian naval officers imprisoned in Qatar. Last year in December, the Court of Appeal in Qatar decided to commute the death penalty that had been given to the eight retired Indian Navy personnel. These individuals had been imprisoned in Qatar since October 2022 and were accused of spying on the nation’s submarine program. The charges against them were undisclosed, but they were initially sentenced to death by a court in Qatar. On February 12, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially announced that seven of the eight former Navy officers had returned to India.
Shah Rukh recently visited Qatar for professional purposes. During his stay in Doha, he had the opportunity to meet with Qatar Prime Minister HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Additionally, he graced the AFC final as a distinguished guest of honor. Since his visit, numerous rumors about him being involved in freeing the Navy Officers started to emerge online.
