Viewers on OTT platforms can now enjoy Savi, the action-packed thriller that made its debut earlier this year. Divya Khossla headlines the film, which is currently being streamed on Netflix nearly two months after its theatrical release. Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane also play important roles in Abhinay Deo’s movie. Savi offers a modern retelling of the story of Savitri and Satyavan.
The movie reimagines the 2008 French film Pour Elle, catering to those unfamiliar with the original. Savi draws inspiration from the mythological stories of Savitri and Satyavan, portraying the journey of a humble homemaker striving to free her husband from a maximum-security facility in England. During an earlier interview, Deo described the film as a portrayal of a straightforward, unassuming woman, just like any other person one meets every day. However, when her family is in danger, things change. The filmmaker believes that this is an exciting story—the story of a simple woman’s courage.
Khossla mentioned her selective nature when it comes to accepting roles, but she was enamored with this particular script. The actress expressed that it is brimming with suspense, questioning how a homemaker could carry out a mission of such magnitude. She dedicated herself to fully embodying the character before her arrival on set. Khossla thinks that the entire experience of portraying a character filled with determination and bravery was genuinely remarkable. The actor elaborated on how the film draws inspiration from the legend of Savitri, a symbol of female empowerment. Women need to realize that they are capable of achieving anything. Female viewers will be able to relate to the character of Savi. Additionally, the movie offers an exciting thriller and a gripping jailbreak narrative.
Abhinay Deo described Khossla’s casting as “surprising,” expressing his desire to cast her in the movie even though her previous work did not include any experience in thrillers. Deo was searching for an actress who could portray a simple woman convincingly. It was important for her to appear vulnerable, and the actress fits the role perfectly. He was interested in something other than casting someone with much baggage. Ultimately, Khossla mentioned that working on the film was a valuable learning experience, and she expressed her interest in taking on more future projects in the thriller genre.
