Saif Ali Khan’s journey into South Indian cinema through Pan-India projects like Adipurush and Devara has been a mixed bag. On the other hand, in Devara, where Saif plays the antagonist Bhaira, there were high expectations for a fiery showdown with Jr NTR’s character. Did his role deliver on screen? Let’s dive in. In the first half of the film, Bhaira certainly matches the powerful presence of Jr NTR’s Devara. Saif’s screen presence and attitude were a treat for his fans. However, the downfall began after the interval.
Bhaira, a ruthless leader of one of the four coastal villages, had a strong buildup in the first half. Yet, in the latter half, his character became a disappointment. From a fearless leader, Bhaira turned into a powerless figure with little left to offer. His strength seemed tied only to Devara’s presence, and once the protagonist left the scene, Bhaira appeared clueless, relying on others to prepare for battle—a move that led to a weak climax. His character even disappeared entirely toward the end.
Fans are now hopeful that the second part will do justice to Saif Ali Khan’s potential and deliver a more satisfying arc for Bhaira.
