Pothina Venkata Mahesh, a BC leader from Vijayawada West Assembly segment, is a strong contender for the coming general election. He had been working in the constituency for the past five years.
Mahesh had spent money and time in the constituency in the last five years. He organised several meetings and held several protests in the constituency. He organised the party cadre and had been attending to their calls from the beginning.
He had pinned a lot of hopes on getting the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency for Jana Sena in alliance with the TDP. However, the seat was given to the BJP, sources say, which angered Mahesh and his supporters.
The Jana Sena activists from the constituency are offering prayers in various temples here seeking change of Pawan Kalyan’s mind. They also appeal to the Jana Sena chief to change his plans and take Vijayawada West Assembly constituency from BJP.
Meanwhile, sources say that Mahesh had met Pawan Kalyan at the party office in Mangalagiri and held talks. Mahesh had reportedly requested Pawan Kalyan to take the Vijayawada West Assembly seat.
Pawan Kalyan had also told Mahesh that the seat was given to the BJP in alliance, and it was the responsibility of the Jana Sena to support the BJP. He wanted Mahesh and his supporters to support the BJP in the elections.
Pawan Kalyan had also promised to accommodate Mahesh in a proper place after the elections. He reportedly told Mahesh that he remembered the services of Mahesh for the party and is not ready to lose him. It was painful for him too to give the Vijayawada West Assembly seat, he told Mahesh.
However, sources say that Mahesh had reportedly told Pawan Kalyan that he would contest the elections as independent candidate. He said that there was no going back on contesting from the seat. Sources say that Mahesh would take a call on contesting as rebel candidate in the next one week.
