It is widely known that Siddharth’s Oye was released in theaters yesterday as a Valentine’s Day special. Contrary to the expectations of who will watch an old movie of an out-of-form hero like Siddharth, the theaters’ registered house fulls in many places. The audiences celebrated the re-release with superb excitement. Especially the videos of people getting up from their seats and dancing to the songs were mainly seen on social media. The film’s production handle shared those videos with loads of happiness. Oye Re-Release works wonders at the box office.
The most surprising thing is that the latest releases could not cash in on Valentine’s Day, but Oye completely grabbed the advantage. The film amassed 1Cr Gross yesterday, an exceptional achievement for a re-released film. Trade experts and some audiences are surprised that a 15-year-old flop movie got such a massive response.
Released in 2009, Oye was a commercial failure at that time. The film had a superb pre-release craze because of the blockbuster album, and the film’s unit also created massive hype around the movie’s heroine by not showing her face on posters. However, the audiences were disappointed after seeing Shamili on screen as her appearance or character did not match their expectations. Moreover, they did not like the sad ending given to Shamili’s role. Director Anand Ranga was appreciated for his technical finesse and taste in music. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs for Oye were chartbusters. Over the years, the album’s value got more prominent with the music listeners topping their list with songs from the film.
