Aditya Sarpotdar’s Munjya, starring Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh, has shown impressive box-office resilience. Despite the influx of new films, Munjya has managed to maintain a mere 10 percent decrease in earnings. The film is on track to reach a significant Rs 50 crore milestone by the end of the week, capitalizing on favorable conditions until the release of Kalki 2898 AD. The audience is also eagerly anticipating the release of Stree 2 on Independence Day in 2024, further highlighting the film’s potential for continued success.
Surprisingly, Munjya experienced a rise in occupancy rates despite a decrease in showtimes caused by Chandu Champion. The film collected 3.5 Crores net on its eighth day at the box office, and it collected 39.5 Crores Net and 47 Crores Gross in India. Given its dominance at the box office, trade experts anticipate that the film will enjoy some more good weekends there.
The tale of Munjya unfolds in Pune and the Konkan region of Maharashtra, delving into the story of the legendary mythical being from the realm of Indian folklore and traditions. Produced by Maddock Films under the guidance of Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, Munjya joins the ranks of the horror comedy universe established by the production house, which includes Stree (2018), Roohi (2021), and Bhediya (2022). Moreover, the film consists of a post-credit sequence featuring actor Varun Dhawan reprising his role from Bhediya.
