Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined from competitive cricket since the World Cup in November, underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon in London on Monday. Shami has been battling issues with his Achilles tendon since the World Cup and has been seeking treatment to overcome the problem.
In a social media post, Shami expressed his eagerness to get back on his feet and resume his cricketing journey soon. However, the recovery process is expected to take some time, ruling him out of action for the foreseeable future.
Shami’s absence from competitive cricket means he will miss the entirety of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and raises doubts about his participation in the Twenty20 World Cup scheduled for June. The decision to undergo surgery came after consultation with experts in London, following a recommendation from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
The Indian team, fresh from their series victory over England, has been granted a four-day break. They will reconvene in Dharamsala on March 3 for the fifth and final Test against England, starting on March 7. India have already secured an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-Test series.
Shami’s surgery and subsequent recovery mark a challenging period for the talented bowler, but his determination to return to cricket highlights his resilience and commitment to the game. His absence will be felt by the Indian team and fans alike, but his health and well-being remain the top priority as he focuses on his recovery.
