Story:

Sahu (Adarsh Balakrishna) and Mythili (Pooja Jhaveri) are a couple who have a strained relationship. Similarly, Abhi (Kamal Kamaraju) and Nikki (Akshara Gowda)also face difficulties in their relationship. The plot takes a turn when Sahu and Nikki engage in a physical relationship during a vacation, shocking their respective partners. As a result, Abhi and Mythili are left heartbroken and eventually find comfort in each other. The unfolding of these events forms the core narrative of Mix Up, which is currently available to stream on Aha.

Performances:

Aadarsh Balakrishna’s performance was good, as he effortlessly portrayed his character. Akshara Gowda looked hot, and her performance was also good, although her role needed more depth. Kamal Kamaraju did well but looked odd in a few scenes, and Pooja Jhaveri was fine. Kamakshi Bhaskarla and others were okay.

Analysis:

Aakash Bikki’s film Mix Up delves into the fragility of modern relationships, highlighting how even the most minor issue can lead to their breakup. Through the portrayal of two couples, the movie explores the vulnerability of these relationships, albeit in an exaggerated and somewhat absurd manner. Some may even argue that the narrative comes across as vulgar. While there is nothing inherently wrong with depicting how contemporary, open-minded couples may choose to leave their partners for others, the emotional complexities that underlie such decisions are often overlooked in the film. Instead, the film focuses on a couple who engage in infidelity without any substantial backstory or justifiable motive for their actions. That is why the emotional tinge towards the climax had zero effect.

Positives:

A couple of dialogues about relationships work well. Akshara Gowda’s stunning appearance keeps the viewers glued to the screen for a few scenes. There is nothing more to say in this department, actually.

Negatives:

As said above, the emotional aspect was completely missing in the film. For example, Aadarsh Balakrishna and Akshara Gowda are portrayed as individuals solely focused on physical intimacy, while the other two characters are depicted as emotionally naive. The director could have presented a harmonious blend of these contrasting elements. Particularly poignant is a scene in Mix Up where Kamal Kamaraju is devastated upon witnessing his wife engaging in a physical relationship with another person. This particular moment could have been undeniably heart-wrenching for any viewer. Despite Kamal’s commendable efforts, the scene’s execution is rather absurd. The buildup to that scene was not effective, and the aftereffects were not shown perfectly. Also, how Mythili and Abhi end up together is not displayed correctly; their conversations and emotional exchanges do not land well and are at the primary level only.

Last Line: A terrible mix-up of stupidity and silliness
