Story:

Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) have assumed control of Mirzapur, with Beena Tripathi (Rasika Dugal) supporting them. However, doubts arise about Beena’s loyalty. The people of Purvanchal are now conspiring against Guddu, viewing him as an unworthy ruler, while Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) leads the opposition. The objective is to locate Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), revive the business operations, and maintain power in Mirzapur while avoiding assassination attempts. Guddu and Golu are making every effort, but are they again vulnerable to manipulation?

Performances:

All the actors have successfully embodied their roles for three seasons. Ali Fazal’s transformation into Munna, a character he both loved and hated, showcases his talent. Shweta Tripathi Sharma’s portrayal of the silent mind is flawless. Rasika Dugal exudes confidence in her performance. Pankaj Tripathi appears for fewer scenes this season, and his absence is noticeable. Anjum Sharma and Isha Talwar get a lot of screentime, but their characters hardly have any compelling moments.

Analysis:

Set in the heartland of India, Mirzapur depicts the chaos inherited from its previous seasons. The dynamics of politics, law, and lawlessness are all dictated by those in power, constantly altering the game’s rules. Achieving two successful seasons and captivating the audience for a third is commendable. However, the creators seem to have reservations about the potential for the show to continue for additional seasons. Despite having great potential, the third season of India’s Biggest Web Series failed to live up to the mark. There are characters and certain moments that shake the viewers and leave them shattered, but those sequences should have appeared more.

Positives:

This season vividly portrays the social hierarchy and caste system in Mirzapur, underscoring that the unrest is not merely due to the death of the supreme leader but because his ‘dog’ (as Ali Fazal is commonly referred to) has assumed control. Even though the leader may perish, his successor cannot be a man who once belonged to the lower class. The subtle nuances in the storytelling have ensured the impact is there. The final trio of episodes in the season shine brightly, redeeming the lackluster and meandering nature of the initial seven episodes.

Negatives:

A wealth of material in the first seven episodes needed to be fully utilized. These episodes set the stage for a larger narrative with a concrete resolution. The primary emphasis is on anticipating Kaleen Bhaiya’s return, which will substantially impact the following season. However, the current season’s essence gets diluted because of this weakness. A few crucial characters had much scope to excel. For example, there is an exciting twist for Vijay Varma, but it arrives too late in the series. His abrupt departure at the end of the season may leave viewers feeling lost and uncertain about his character’s impact.

Last Line: Mirzapur 3 – An Ordinary and Underwhelming Outing
