Mersal, the 2017 action entertainer starring Vijay in the lead role, completed seven years yesterday, October 18, 2024. Director Atlee shared a throwback film from the film’s sets last night, and the fans of Vijay shared it with great love and excitement. The filmmaker shared the picture in which he is doing the same mannerism that Vijay does in his introduction scene in the film.
Thalapathy Vijay and Atlee combo is considered one of the highly successful ones as it produced three blockbusters in the form of Theri (2016), Mersal (2017), and Bigil (2019). Interestingly, Vijay appears in triple roles in Mersal, a father and two sons, and it was released in theaters worldwide on October 18, 2017. Released as a Diwali special, the film went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters in Tamil cinema. Besides Vijay, the film also stars SJ Suryah, Nitya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala, and Sathyan in supporting roles. The film tells the story of two twins who get separated in childhood, with the elder one becoming a doctor and the younger one becoming a magician/vigilante. Mersal is available for streaming on Netflix and ZEE5.
Vijay is currently working on his next film under the direction of H Vinoth, and probably this will be the last film of his career before his full-fledged political entry. Meanwhile, Atlee produced a Hindi film titled Baby John, which is a remake of Theri, and the film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 25, 2024.
