Meiyazhagan, the latest Tamil drama featuring Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles, was released last week and opened to excellent response from audiences and critics. While the film is running successfully in theaters in both Tamil and Telugu, a decision by the makers to delete some of the scenes did not go well with audiences. The producers of Meiyazhagan trimmed the film by 18 minutes after a section of reviewers and netizens felt that the film was too lengthy.
However, a large section of netizens were not happy with this, as they felt all the scenes that were removed from the film contributed to the film’s essence, and removing them would lessen the film’s overall impact. The original runtime of Meiyazhagan when it was released in theaters was 2 hours and 57 minutes. As said above, the makers of the film trimmed the film by deleting scenes, which resulted in it losing 18 minutes of runtime. A few scenes that show Jallikattu, the scene where the two leads talk about the sociopolitical issues while drinking, and a scene near the pre-climax where Arvind Swamy goes to the temple have been chopped off the film according to the reports. Only a few from the audience were worried about the film’s length, while a large section of them were not at all happy with the film’s scenes getting deleted, and they openly showed their frustration on social media by tagging the film’s producers.
Written and directed by Prem Kumar C, Meiyazhagan is his first collaboration with Karthi. Suriya and Jyotika produced this film under 2D Entertainment, while Govind Vasantha scored the music. Meiyzhagan was released in Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram, and it received good response here as well.
