Vijay Sethupathi’s latest film, Maharaja, performs excellently at the box office. According to the box office trackers, Maharaja had a successful run during its first week at the box office, collecting a whopping 55 Crores Gross Worldwide.
The film tells the story of Majaraa, a barber. Upon an unexpected robbery in his house, Maharaja embarks on an unwavering quest for vengeance. Mysteriously, he notifies the police that his “Lakshmi” has been taken, confusing as to whether “Lakshmi” is a person or an item. Throughout the story, he seeks to reclaim this elusive “Lakshmi.” Released on 14th June, Maharaja opened to an exceptional response from audiences and reviewers. Maharaja, an intense action thriller, is the brainchild of director and co-writer Nithilan Swaminathan. The film features a stellar cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles, supported by Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami, Munishkanth, and Singam Puli. Produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Sudhan Sundaram, this film is a collaborative effort between Passion Studio and The Route. The film’s journey began in February 2023, initially known as ‘VJS50’ to commemorate Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th lead role. In July 2023, the final title ‘Maharaja’ was unveiled. Filming commenced in the same month, primarily in Chennai, and wrapped up by mid-July. The film was released on June 14, 2024, to much anticipation and fanfare.
