Kunal Kemmu has ventured into directing with his debut film, Madgaon Express, which hit theaters yesterday. The film revolves around the journey of three friends who had planned a trip to Goa but faced unexpected challenges along the way. Pratik Gandhi, Divyendu Sharma, and Avinash Tiwary portray the main characters in this movie, which Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment produces. However, the trade experts report that the film started sluggishly at the Box Office.
Madgaon Express has grossed Rs. 1.5 crores at the Box Office on its first day. Despite the film’s ability to rake in crores, the amount is considered insignificant. Therefore, the film must sustain its performance until Monday to thrive at the Box Office. Madgaon Express was one of the movies with a Buy 1 get 1 offer for online bookings. However, early reports suggest that this promotional offer did not significantly benefit the movie. This is believed to be due to the absence of a popular superstar associated with the project. Despite being a family entertainer, the timing of the movie’s release has played a significant role in its lower-than-expected Box Office collections.
Madgaon Express primarily appeals to viewers from Maharashtra and Gujarat, but it may not resonate as well with Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Bihar audiences. The film is performing exceptionally well in Mumbai’s Thane district, and there is also a decent audience turnout in Pune. However, the release of Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar poses a significant challenge for Madgaon Express. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is gaining immense popularity in Maharashtra, which has affected Madgaon Express’s box office performance. If Madgaon Express had been released alone or with a different film, it could have earned more at the box office.
