As general elections are fast approaching, the political parties are making equations to win this time. TDP is ahead of the opposition parties in the state in electioneering. The party leaders are planning meticulously to win power in the next election.
In the process, it is widely said that TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh is planning to contest from Hindupur Assembly constituency, which is now represented by his uncle Nandamuri Balakrishna.
The TDP has been winning this seat continuously since the formation of TDP. Pammisetti Ranganayakulu of TDP won the seat for the first time in 1983. Later, from 1985 to 1994, late N T Rama Rao won the seat.
In the 1996 by-election caused by the resignation of N T Rama Rao, his son Nandamuri Harikrishna won the seat. In 1999, C C Venkata Ramudu of TDP, in 2004, Pamisetti Ranganayakulu, in 2009 P Abdul Ghani of the TDP won the seat.
Nandamuri Balakrishna won the seat in 2014 and 2019 respectively. The majority here is around 10,000 votes to 15,000 votes on an average.
Keeping this in mind, Lokesh is now planning to shift to this constituency as he lost the election in 2019 from Mangalagiri. Though he said that he would contest from here again in 2024, sources say that Lokesh is looking for safe seat this time as he wants to make it to the Assembly.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu too is understood to have given his consent for Lokesh to contest from Hindupur and to the retirement plans of Balakrishna.
Besides Kuppam, Chandrababu Naidu is also said to be looking at another seat this time as the YSR Congress is working hard to defeat him at Kuppam. The TDP had lost all the successive elections in Kuppam – panchayat and municipal elections.
It is to be seen what would happen to these plans once the election schedule is released some time in March 2024.
