Laughing Buddha is the latest comedy drama from Sandalwood, which was released in theaters in August. The film is now ready for its OTT release. Rishab Shetty, the popular Kannada actor/filmmaker who recently won the National Award for his performance in Kantara, is the producer of the film. Rishab’s close friend Pramod Shetty played the lead role in the film.
The film has been directed by Bharath Raj M, who earlier made Hero with Rishabh Shetty. Rishab liked the script of Laughing Buddha and decided to produce it. The film was released in theaters on August 30, 2024, and opened to positive reviews along with securing a decent result at the box office. Rishab also felt bad that despite Kantara being such a massive pan-India blockbuster, he was unable to strike a good deal for satellite or streaming rights for Laughing Buddha. Finally, the popular digital platform, Amazon Prime Video, has bought the digital rights to the film and will make it available for online streaming from October 18, i.e., this Friday.
Laughing Buddha tells the story of Govardhan, a cop who loves good food, and he is famous for being an out-of-shape physique wife. He gets the secrets out from the criminals by offering them home-cooked meals, and he is assigned to find where the hidden loot is from a prisoner who ends up with amnesia before he could tell the police where he has hidden the loot. Teju Balawasdi, Diganth, Dundar Raj, and others played the supporting roles in the film. Initially, Rishab was set to act in the role that was played by Diganth, but he could not make it due to the conflict with Kantara’s shooting schedules.
