Latest Malayalam Movies coming on OTT

In July 2024, viewers can look forward to a lineup of highly anticipated Malayalam films on OTT platforms following the recent releases of Vishu movies like Aavesham, Varshangalkku Shesham, and Jai Ganesh. Among the upcoming releases are Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran; Turbo, starring Mammootty; and films starring Nivin Pauly, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Asif Ali. Below is a compilation of Malayalam films available for streaming on OTT platforms in July 2024.

Guruvayoorambala Nadayil

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s second blockbuster of the year is directed by Vipin Das and centers on a string of comedic events surrounding a wedding. When someone from Vinu’s past resurfaces just days before his marriage to Anandan’s sister, the two men find themselves in conflict – with one determined to proceed with the wedding and the other trying to stop it. While the official OTT release date has not been announced, it is confirmed that the movie will premiere digitally in July.

Malayalee from India: Sony LIV

Nivin Pauly’s most recent movie has been highly anticipated, mainly due to the controversy surrounding allegations of plagiarism following its release in theaters. Nevertheless, the film’s entertainment value remains intact, as it is directed by Dijo Jose Antony, known for his work in Jana Gana Mana. The storyline follows a lazy young man embroiled in a political scandal, prompting him to escape his hometown. However, his new destination ultimately forces him to confront his own prejudices and outlook on life.

Turbo

Mammootty plays Turbo Jose in Vysakh’s action-packed film. The film follows the story of an Idukki local who must journey to Chennai due to a favor gone wrong, straining a relationship. While in Chennai, he becomes embroiled in a complex conspiracy involving influential figures such as business magnates, politicians, financial institutions, and the criminal underworld. The screenplay, written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, also suggests the potential for a franchise that may see Vijay Sethupathi return to the Malayalam film industry.

Thalavan – Sony LIV

Director Jis Joy’s sophomore attempt at thrillers proves to be his most successful yet. Asif Ali and Biju Menon portray two police officers with differing approaches who work together in the same station. When one is accused of murder, the other is assigned to investigate, leading to a conflict of duty versus personal vendetta. Will revenge or professionalism win out in the end? To know this, one has to watch the film.

Nagendra’s Honeymoons – Disney+Hotstar

Nagendran, in his pursuit of an effortless means to fund his dream of traveling overseas, opts to marry for dowry. However, his downfall lies in his inability to limit himself to just one marriage. Renowned director Nithin Renji Panicker, recognized for his action-packed dramas Kasaba and Kaaval, directs this dark comedy, which will serve as Disney+ Hotstar’s third Malayalam web series following Kerala Crime Files and Periloor Premier League.
