Story:
The movie is about two young men, Guru and Samshuddin, who were once close friends until a tragic event separated them and turned them into bitter rivals in Kasumuru village. Guru and his village are connected to Moideen Bhai, a Mumbai-based textile businessmen and Samshu’s father. Kasumuru’s villagers encounter insults from another village during a religious festival. However, the conflicts get severe afterward? Will Moideen Bhai try to intervene? Can the young people reconcile? Answers to these questions can be known only afternoon watching the movie.
Performances:
Vishnu Vishal’s performance is good and meets the character’s requirements. Vikrant’s performance is satisfactory, and Rajinikanth’s performance as Vikrant’s father is just adequate, as it does not provide any impact except for a few mannerisms and some thought-provoking dialogues. Jeevitha Rajasekhar gave a natural performance and Dhanya Balakrishnan was effective in a small role, while Ananthika, Kapil Dev, and Nirosha are fine.
Analysis:
Aishwarya Rajinikanth narrates the entire film in back and forth technique. The first half shows several incidents and raises many questions, the second half gives all the answers as backstory is shown. There is a constant attempt to induce emotions, but the effect goes missing because of the baffled screenplay.
Positives:
A few dialogues from Rajinikanth about National integrity and the resurrection portions of Vishnu Vishal’s character work well for the film. The climax episode is also better.
Negatives:
Aishwarya Rajinikanth tried to make the film with an honest message, but she lacked clarity to decide on which issue should be the main point. There are many topics in the film, like religious conflicts, social inequality, issues between two close families, but nothing gets the desired result because no issue is told heart fully.
Lal Salaam Verdict:
Lal Salaam is a tedious and ineffective drama. Forced emotions, boring narration and taking on many issues work against the film, while a few message-oriented scenes and climax portions work well for the film.
