Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, which was released in March 2024, has been the talking point of the discussion among moviegoers since yesterday because of its monumental achievement. On September 23, 2024, the film was selected as India’s official entry for Oscars 2025. Naturally, the director of the film, Kiran Rao, is excited about this news, and she shared her thoughts in the latest interview.
Kiran Rao stressed the importance of dubbing and subtitles in this generation. Because the language barriers in the entertainment field have been broken, these elements play a crucial role, according to the filmmaker, as they can make the film transcend boundaries across the world. The 50-year-old director also informed us that Laapataa Ladies is all set to be released in Japan in October. She added that if a film is well subtitled and culturally marketed, it can travel everywhere in the world.
Laapataa Ladies was the first film for director Kiran Rao after a 13-year break. Dhobi Ghat (2011) was her last directorial, which garnered critical acclaim. Meanwhile, Laapataa Ladies stars mostly newcomers in the lead roles in the form of Nitanshi Goel, Prathibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava. The film was jointly produced by Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan (her ex-husband), and the film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
