Lapataa Ladies is set in the rural backdrop of the fictional Nirmal Pradesh in Madhya Pradesh. The story begins in a second-class train compartment, where newlywed couples travel to their respective villages. Deepak, played by Sparsh Shrivastava, finds himself in the darkness of the night, hastily getting off the train and accidentally holding another woman’s hand instead of his wife. This unexpected turn of events shocks him when he reaches home. The remainder of the narrative revolves around Deepak’s quest to find his lost wife, Phool, and the journey of the other woman, Jaya/Pushpa Rani, as she reconnects with her roots.
