Produced by Aamir Khan and directed by his ex-wife Kiran Rao, this village-based comedy is winning hearts and getting the cash registers complete with the help of superb mouth talk. The film had a comparatively smaller number of theaters on its first day as the makers wanted to go through a slow but steady route. Word of mouth from audiences came positive, and the film is increasing its numbers day by day.
Laapataa Ladies collected over ₹ 1 Crore Net on its opening day. The film saw an increase in earnings on Saturday, bringing in ₹1.40 crore, mainly due to positive word-of-mouth promotion. On Sunday the number crossed ₹ 2 Crore. The overall domestic box office collection now totals ₹4 crore. Most critics have given positive feedback to Laapataa Ladies. Many noted reviewers called it a “charming movie”. One of the netizens wrote, “While the film does convey a strong message, its powerful feminist essence surpasses any generalizations. There are instances when it is necessary to express things boldly and unequivocally.”
The film tells the story of a newly married man who accidentally gets separated from his wife in the hustle and bustle of a packed train, mistaking another woman for his spouse. Little do they know, the confusion persists until they arrive at the man’s hometown. The story follows the man’s search for his real wife and delving into the unforeseen adventure of the woman who is now in an unknown place.
