Following the commercial and critical success of the romantic drama Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Roshan expressed a strong desire to collaborate with his son Hrithik on a new project. At the 2nd IIFA Awards held in June 2001, he was honored with the Best Director award for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.
