Starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu and Vaani Kapoor, the comedy drama Khel Khel Mein was released in theaters on Independence Day. Directed by Muddasir Aziz, the film hit the theaters in a three-way clash with two other films, one being the John Abraham-starrer Vedaa, and another one being the highly expected horror comedy sequel Stree 2.
Stree 2 showed a heavy domination at the box office by collecting Rs 65 crore on day 1, which includes the numbers from Wednesday previews. Khel Khel Mein, however, failed to get a decent opening. According to the trade circles, the film gathered Rs 5 crore net on day one. As said above, Stree 2 is dominating the ticket sales, making it tough for Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa to compete. Khel Khel Mein’s disappointing opening continues the bad time of Akshay. Sarfira, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan were Akshay’s other releases this year which failed to get success at the box office. Interestingly, Akshay appeared in a cameo in Stree 2.
Khel Khel Mein had an occupancy of 40.26 percent on its first day, with most of the viewers arriving at the theaters during night shows. In Mumbai, where the film had 352 shows, the occupancy was 45.25 percent. In Delhi and NCR, with 421 shows, the occupancy was 50.5 percent.
