The delay in the India OTT release of the Kannada sci-fi thriller Blink, coupled with the availability of a high-quality version of the film from its international digital release on the internet, raised concerns about the film’s future. The question arose: why would anyone choose to watch it on a subscription-based platform like Amazon Prime Video when it could be accessed for free on specific websites?
Surprisingly, the Kannada viewership has remained loyal to the designated channel and has shown its support for the team. According to producer Ravichandra AJ, on May 21, the film “Blink” successfully reached the milestone of 1 crore streaming minutes on Amazon Prime Video, where it has been available for streaming for the past few days. The team has been open and honest about the film’s financial performance, even during the period when it didn’t have any screenings in Karnataka. The filmmaker has officially announced these statistics on social media, expressing gratitude to the audience for their tremendous support. A streaming minute count of 1 crore will only earn the team Rs 2-4 lakh, depending on the terms of their agreement and applicable tax deductions. The team will need the streaming minutes to increase significantly in order to generate some profit.
In Blink, Dheekshith portrays the character of Apurva, a postgraduate student who needs to clear a few subjects. While on a trip to purchase reference books for his exams, Apurva notices an elderly man observing him. Upon confrontation, the old man named Arivu reveals that the story Apurva has grown up with – that his father abandoned the family years ago and is presumed dead – may only partially be accurate. The true story is what Blink delves into. Blink, a film helmed by first-time director Srinidhi Bengaluru, draws inspiration from Oedipus Rex. The movie features a talented cast, including Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Chaithra J Achar, Suresh Anagalli, Vajradheer Jain, and several others in significant roles.
