The film, directed by Nag Ashwin, unveils Supreme Yaskin, portrayed by Kamal Haasan, The Complex’s primary antagonist and founder and ruler. Yaskin is depicted as a tyrant with unparalleled authority, responsible for creating The Complex, a parallel universe accessible through the entrance of the renowned Indian city of Kashi (Varanasi). Set in the year 2898 AD, the movie briefly mentions that Supreme Yaskin has lived for more than two centuries. Upon his initial appearance, the audience witnesses him in a nearly comatose state, yet retaining his merciless nature. Despite the lack of detailed information on Supreme Yaskin’s Project K in Kalki 2898 AD, it is evident that the goal is to develop a serum for prolonging life using artificially inseminated human fetuses. Commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee), under Yaskin’s leadership, orders a group of soldiers to bring highly fertile females, even children, to their laboratory. Unfortunately, none of the pregnant women can sustain the artificially inseminated fetus for more than 120 days for reasons that remain unknown.
Supreme Yaskin’s endeavor to discover the ideal fetus that reaches full term in the womb has been dubbed Project K. Notably, the villain is consistently depicted seated within a concealed chamber reminiscent of a womb. He is also tethered to several cords that sustain his life, mirroring an unborn human infant. Even Kamal Haasan’s portrayal in the movie subtly evokes the image of a human fetus (and, naturally, Lord Voldemort, the primary antagonist of the Harry Potter series). It is reasonable to anticipate that Supreme Yaskin, rejuvenated by a solitary drop of serum derived from SUM-80’s womb, will play a more significant role in the forthcoming sequels of Kalki 2898 AD. From the limited instances where the antagonist is shown, it is apparent that the misanthropic Yaskin is poised to embark on a quest to locate the unborn Kalki and his mother, forging a new world by eradicating the ‘flawed’ race.
