Johnson Responds to Madame Web’s Poor Reception

Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web portrayal received heavy criticism for its subpar quality, contributing to Sony’s recent disappointments after Morbius. In a recent interview, Johnson expressed little surprise at the film’s underwhelming reception, attributing it to committee-driven decisions rather than a filmmaker’s vision.

“Unfortunately, I’m not surprised this has gone down the way it has. Decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committee. Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them.”

She cautioned against prioritizing numbers and algorithms over artistic integrity, emphasizing that audiences can discern authenticity. Johnson passionately stated, “Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullshit. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren’t going to f*cking want to see those.”
