Jigra, the latest action drama starring Alia Bhatt as the lead, was released in theaters last week, and it faced mixed reviews and a miserable result at the box office. As if such a disastrous result was not enough for the makers, the allegations of Jigra being a copy of Divya Khosla Kumar’s Savi have been running in the industry circles since its release. Divya Khosla Kumar, Bhushan Kumar’s wife, also posted on her Instagram account that Jigra’s collections are fake. So the rumors of Jigra copying Savi’s story gained more strength, but the director of the former, Vasan Bala, trashed all the rumors.
Starring Alia Bhatt and Vedanga Raina, Jigra tells the story of an elder sister going to extreme lengths to save his brother, who lands in jail. Meanwhile, Divya Khosla Kumar’s Savi also has the concept of a prison break, but it is about a wife who wants to save her husband at any cost. Director Vasan Bala stated that Jigra is not a copy of Savi, and he also added that Savi came into theaters while they were editing Jigra. He said that people can watch the film and point it out, but it is their will and wish. He also spoke about Jigra’s fake bookings and reiterated that he does not think that is bad, but even if it is done for his film, it is a decision of the distributors, and he is not involved in it. Vasan also stated that people pointing out his film’s bookings can bring out the truth by investigating the issue.
On October 11, 2024, Jigra was released in theaters and opened to mixed reviews. The film’s theatrical run is mostly over, and it will land on OTT after the regular gap of eight weeks from theatrical release. Netflix, the popular streaming platform, has bagged the digital rights to Jigra, and it will be the fourth film of Alia Bhatt to land on the platform after Darlings, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Heart of Stone.
