Jigra, the action drama directed by Vasan Bala with Alia Bhatt taking on the lead role, was released in theaters this Friday. The film received a heavy mixed response upon its theatrical arrival, as only a few sections of audiences liked it while the majority of movie lovers and critics did not like it. The same talk/response reflected in its box office numbers, as Jigra had a comparatively average opening at the box office.
On its first day, Jigra managed to collect around 5 crore net in India. The film was also released in Telugu as Alia got familiar with the Telugu audiences with RRR. However, the box office performance of the Telugu version was almost nil, as it gathered only 5 lakhs, and the rest of the numbers came from the Hindi version. The film can get good numbers and be better than its first day, as today marks the festival of Dasara.
Jigra tells the story of a brother and sister who lose their father at a very young age, and the sister becomes very protective of her younger brother. Vedang Raina appeared as the brother of Alia Bhatt, and Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran appeared in supporting roles. The film has been jointly produced by Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt under Eternal Sunshine Productions and Dharma Productions banners.
