Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday unveiled the 125 feet statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Swaraj Maidan in Vijayawada. The statue was erected on a 80 feet three-storeyed pedestal building that houses Dr Ambedkar experience centre.

The project was taken up at a cost of RS 404.35 crore and executed in an extent of 18.81 acres of land. It was started on December 21, 2021, and completed on January 19, 2024. There is a convention center to accommodate 2000 persons. There is also a food court in the area offering a wide range of food items.

There is a play area for the children, and six water bodies amid green belts. There is a musical fountain and water fountains to entertain the visitors. Speaking on the occasion, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that untouchability is in practice in different forms. Neglecting the government schools itself is untouchability, he said.

He also said that denying English education for the children of poor families, is also untouchability. He said that these practitioners of untouchability were trying to rule the state and rule the minds of the people.

He called upon the people to support him as he was protecting the rights of the people and the rights of the neglected sections. He also wanted the people to be cautious of the exploiters who were coming to them in this time of elections.

He said that these people were against the interests of the Dalits and neglected sections. He wanted the people of these sections stand together and defeat such people.
