Chief Minister and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took oath as the chief minister of the state five years ago on this day. He took the oath at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada in the presence of thousands of his supporters.In the five years, he introduced several reforms in administration in the state. He rolled out several welfare schemes, particularly the cash benefit schemes to the people in five years. The five years of his rule was considered the best and the golden period for the government schools and government hospitals.
Jagan Mohan Reddy provided additional infrastructure and new buildings under the Nadu-Nedu programme to the government schools and hospitals. The school buildings were given a face lift. The students were given books, bags, uniforms and shoes. English Medium education was simultaneously introduced in all government schools. The CBSE system of education was introduced in more than 1000 government schools. The students of Class VIII were given tabs with Byjus curriculum.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also started construction of 17 new medical colleges in the state with each college getting 250 seats. There were 17 teaching hospitals attached to these colleges that would provide free health care to the people.Jagan Mohan Reddy also started construction of eight shipping harbours to help the fishermen families along the coast. Four ports are also being constructed across the state and connecting roads are provided.
He constructed over 15,000 village and ward secretariats, 12,000 rythu bharosa kendars, 11,000 digital libraries, 13,000 village clinics across the state. Over 12,000 ambulances were launched in the state. Another 9,000 civil supplies vehicles were also introduced. Another 18,000 vehicles were given to the municipalities, municipal corporations and gram panchayats to collect garbage. All these vehicles had drivers and assistants.Over 1.60 lakh employees were taken in the village and ward secretariats and another 75,000 employees were taken as drivers and assistants for ambulances, civil supplies vehicles and garbage vehicles.
Pension was given at the doorstep of the people, and it was made Rs 3,000 per month. A massive hospital was constructed at Uddanam in north Andhra region. A drinking water project was also completed in Uddanam.Considering all this, the last five years was the golden period for Andhra Pradesh as it was all investment on health and human resources. The investment on these two sectors helps in creating a healthy society in the years to come.
