Acharya, a film that could be forgotten in the careers of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, also left its mark on director Koratala Siva. Ever since Koratala moved on from the setback of Acharya and went ahead to direct Jr NTR for Devara, the project has constantly been in the news. Many have appreciated Jr NTR for taking a bold step in agreeing to work on the script, even after witnessing Acharya’s underperformance at the box office.
Koratala Siva faced immense pressure to deliver with Devara, and so far, the promotional campaigns have worked out well, building anticipation—until the major update of the trailer launch happened. Once the much-anticipated Devara trailer was unveiled, it sparked a mixed response despite a blockbuster music album.
The mixed reactions were primarily due to Acharya. Fans and netizens began drawing comparisons between the shots from Devara and Acharya, noting that while the locations were different, the treatment seemed quite similar. However, many felt that Devara had a stronger focus on VFX and audio quality. Some even went as far as comparing individual scenes, from Sonu Sood’s character in Acharya resembling Saif Ali Khan’s role in Devara, to Jaahnvi Kapoor’s costumes echoing those of Pooja Hegde in Acharya. Certain dialogues in the trailer were also reminiscent of Acharya, fueling further debate.
This has raised the question: Is Koratala Siva simply reshaping a flop film into a better version with Devara? This doubt lingers among fans and critics alike. Even Jr NTR, during a recent event, mentioned that “Koratala needs the right people around him” to succeed. This statement has only heightened curiosity about the film’s outcome.
