IPL 2024 Kicks Off With Record for RCB vs CSK

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has kicked off on a resounding note, shattering previous viewership records on both television and digital platforms. According to Disney Star, the tournament’s opening day witnessed a staggering peak concurrency of 6.1 crore viewers simultaneously tuning in to the broadcast on their network, setting a new benchmark for an IPL season opener.

The remarkable TV viewership figures were further bolstered by a 16% growth in overall consumption compared to the previous edition, with Disney Star recording an impressive 870 crore minutes of viewership on the opening day alone. This surge in interest can be attributed to the extensive pre-tournament programming, which attracted a colossal 24.5 crore viewers in the week leading up to the tournament’s commencement.

On the digital front, JioCinema emerged as the platform of choice for cricket enthusiasts, registering a staggering 11.3 crore viewers on the opening day – a remarkable 51% jump from the previous year’s figures. The total watch time on JioCinema soared to an unprecedented 660 crore minutes, underscoring the growing popularity of digital streaming for premier cricketing events.
