Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s Indian 2 is preparing for its OTT release. It was already reported that the streaming giant Netflix acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights; the streaming platform has now revealed the premiere date. It was also reported that the Digital Platform and the Indian 2 Producers had to go through numerous discussions regarding the price negotiations after the film’s disastrous box office result.
Indian 2, the follow-up to the 1996 Tamil vigilante action-drama film featuring Kamal Haasan in the principal role, is set to debut on the streaming platform Netflix. The film will be accessible starting August 9, 2024, and will be offered in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Directed by Shankar, who also directed the original film, Indian 2 sees Kamal Haasan reprising his role. The narrative centers on Senapathy, a freedom fighter who once battled for India’s independence from British rule and is now confronting corruption within Indian society. While the first installment showcased Kamal Haasan in dual roles, Indian 2 introduces a cast that includes Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah, Samuthirakani, Vivekh, Nedumudi Venu, Bobby Simha, and Jagan, among others. The plot follows a group of YouTubers who urge Senapathy to return to India to combat corruption.
Indian 2 was met with a lukewarm reception and failed to meet expectations, disappointing many fans who praised the original 1996 film. The music for Indian 2 was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and the film was produced by Lyca Productions. The production team has announced that a third installment is currently in the works, set to be released in 2025 and taking place during the colonial era. The third part is expected to feature Kajal Aggarwal and new characters. In the meantime, the original Indian film is available for streaming on Aha Tamil and Netflix for those interested.
