After a rural based characterization in a rustic look that bagged him a blockbuster, Dasara, hero Nani appeared on the screen in a soft, gentle and sober characterization with his latest flick, Hi…Nanna. The character he portrayed in it released just today may not be very fresh him performance wise, but the story line all the while carried the show with an engrossing interest till the end. His innate flare for novel roles and first of its kind stories is duly justified in Hi…Nanna.

The Story:

Viraj ( Nani) is a professional photgrapher with a daughter(Baby Kaira) whom he takes care of singlehandedly. Motherless home sickens the daughter and is always keen on hearing a story from his father with a mother character in it. Yashna (Mrunal Thakur) one day rescues Mahi from a road accident to later become a bosom friend to Mahi. Curiously, Viraj always tries to keep himself and Mahi away from Yashna. After being pursued by Mahi, one day Viraj frames all that what happened to his wife. His wife and Yashna look alike to ignite interest in the further story. How these two character are alike or both are the same….if so why there were distanced from each other….who are the main reason…this is the story of Hi…Nanna precisely.

Performances:

Needless to say, Nani succeeded in delivering his role in right steads. Every scene was in tact as far as his portrayal of the role is concerned. Many snatches of his performance reminds us of some of his previous films. Despite that similarity, Nani presented himself in such father’s character all with ease and excellence. The suffering he displayed in the two and half hour screen narrative cannot be understated at all. Mrunal Thakur added so much of flavour to her role and to the film on the whole. Had she not been picked for this character, the film would not have been what it is today. Her histrionics kept up the emotions on a particular high. Baby Kaira is an example of sheer perfection. Priyadarsi stood like a pillar of strength in some of the scenes towards climax. The rest are just an addition to engage the audience and the auditoriums.

Technical Values:

Every dialogue writter for each character demonstrated the substance of respective character which enhanced the weightage of the scenes. Music by Heshma fetched a fresh feel practically through out. Cinematography magnified every scene to its complete sense and essence. The dubutant director, Shouryuv chose a wafer thin line with a clear cut clarity that took the audience into his fold.

Plus Points:

  • Nani
  • Mrunal Thakur
  • Baby Kaira
  • Priyadarsi

Minus points:

  • Lazy screenplay
  • fusionless emotions
  • nothing to lift you out of the world

Analysis:

What finally matters is whether the film is engaging or not. In spite of the fact that Nani as the lead of the film has put all of his best efforts like any of his previous films but not to an extent where he could thrill the audiences. He intended to gift his loving fans and families a fresh film which incited him to pick this story of a father and a motherless daughter. In many parts of the film, we get struck with a feeling that his efforts did not bear right fruits.

Of course, his struggle like a father and an actor in tandem may impress one but all with love for his commitment towards a sane film. The total effort behind the film won the dividends through selecting Mrunal Thakur as the hero’s pair. The audience certainly feels the impression to see her on the screen after her previous best Seetharamam. The beaming effect of her Seetharamam thunderous success is still hovering on the world of audience. This impression helped her character and the film as well in Hi….Nanna. So to speak, her character was left totall inexpressive till the end as she forgets all her past.
The narration lagged in few parts of the film only to derail the momentum needed to excite us. In addition to the story’s limping nature, the run also looked to be slightly sickening. At a stage when a film like Animal with its smashing content and its mammoth success with audience, it is to be awaited as to how the world of audience receives this kind of soft and slow film like Hi….Nanna will gain wider reception. Of course, with all its highs and lows, still Hi….Nanna is a film to watch atleast for Nani.

The Last Impact: Watchable but with patience
