Reports indicate that Netflix has officially announced the renewal of Heeramandi for a second season, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali leading the franchise. The renowned filmmaker himself discussed the news with the media, unveiling the update during an event in Mumbai at Carter Road. Adorned in Heeramandi-themed attire, a hundred dancers performed to the show’s music before revealing the exciting renewal news. Sanjay Leela Bhansali emphasized the effort put into creating Heeramandi season 2 during his interaction with the media. He mentioned that making a series is quite demanding, and this project has been no exception. Since the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi in February 2022, he has been tirelessly working every single day without a break. As a result, he acknowledged the immense responsibility that comes with working on this series.
The plot of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar season 2 revolves around women migrating from Lahore to the film industry. After the partition, many of them find a new home in either the Mumbai or Kolkata film industry. Despite the location change, the essence of their journey in the bazaar remains intact. Instead of performing for nawabs, they now dance and sing for producers. This upcoming season promises to explore this shift, and the outcome is yet to be seen. The show, under the direction of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, stars Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Sehgal, and more. It narrates the tale of the courtesans of pre-partition Lahore and their influence in Heeramandi. Through eight episodes, the series explores the concepts of love, rebellion, and independence.
