Hanuman: Ravi Teja’s Voice Misses the Mark

Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja has undoubtedly showcased his versatile talents, leaving audiences impressed with his unique voice overs for unconventional characters. From lending his voice to a cycle in “Maryadaramanna” to bringing a bonsai tree to life in “Awe,” Ravi Teja demonstrated his ability to infuse charm into the most unexpected roles. However, the same cannot be said for his portrayal of the monkey character ‘Koti’ in the film “Hanuman.”

In “Hanuman,” Ravi Teja’s voice is tasked with animating the character of Koti, a role that unfortunately falls short of capturing the magic witnessed in his previous voice-over performances. Despite the potential for an engaging character arc, director Prashant Varma fails to create the same impact, leaving the audience with a sense of forced execution. The humor intended to emanate from Koti’s character barely scratches the surface of what could have been, resulting in a performance that is merely ‘okayish.’

While it is acknowledged that not every director can replicate the success of renowned filmmakers like SS Rajamouli, the disappointment in “Hanuman” stems from the contrasting reception of Varma’s previous work, particularly “Awe.” The director had previously proven his ability to utilize Ravi Teja’s voice effectively, evident in the intriguing portrayal of a bonsai tree in “Awe.” However, this time around, the Monkey Character in “Hanuman” fails to generate the same level of interest, leaving audiences longing for the spark witnessed in their earlier collaboration.
