Hansal Mehta talks about the box office performance of The Buckingham Murders

After entertaining audiences with the comedy film Crew, Kareena Kapoor Khan came up with a crime thriller titled The Buckingha Murders last week. Directed by Hansal Mehta, who is known for his works like Aligarh and Scam 1992, the film raised anticipation around it with intriguing posters, teasers, and trailers. However, all this positive buildup did not turn around into decent footfalls after the film’s arrival at the theaters.

The Buckingha Murders was released in theaters on September 13, 2024. Though a section of audiences and reviewers praised Kareena’s performance and a few scenes in the film, it did not have a good start at the box office. Though the numbers on Saturday and Sunday showed a little growth, the film crashed on Monday and is on the way to become a big failure at the box office. However, the film’s director, Hansal Mehta, does not seem to be bothered about the commercial result of the film. He said that he cannot participate in that reductive conversation. Mehta also added that equating a film with its numbers reduces it to the mediocrity of mind. He also stated that he is happy with the way the film has been received and Kareena’s performance getting discussed. He claimed that people can have different opinions and they can disagree with him.

The Buckingham Murders tells the story of a mother who suffers from the grief of losing her son and how she takes on a case of an Indian boy missing and solves it while fighting with her inner struggle. The film was released in two versions, one the original English version and another one a Hindi-dubbed one. Surprisingly, the English version with a 20% Hindi dialogue received 40% of the total collections of the film in India.
